Ramayana BTS Details : Director Nitesh Tiwari’s grand and epic film ‘Ramayana’ has been released in theatres. The visuals and grand sets of this two-part film, made by producer Namit Malhotra with a budget of Rs 4,000 crore, are being praised everywhere. While audiences are enjoying the film in theatres, the behind-the-scenes and set details have taken the internet by storm. The film’s art director Ramesh and creative head of ‘House of Amrapali’ Tarang Arora have revealed how much effort and money was spent in creating the grand throne and jewelery of demon king Ravana Yash in the film.

More than 150 sets and a gold throne worth Rs 1 crore

In an interview, Art Director Ramesh told that he had joined the team of ‘Ramayana’ in February 2024. The construction of sets started from April 2024 at ‘Prime Focus Studios’ located in Film City, Mumbai. More than 150 sets were prepared for this grand film.

Ramesh told that 10 to 15 different designs were made before finalizing what is seen on the screen. The most attention-grabbing scene is the one when Ravana sits on his throne.

How the throne was made: This was not a VFX artwork. The team first made a model of clay, then prepared its mold and made the structure of the throne from fiber.

24-karat gold finish: The most special thing about this throne was its finishing, which was polished with a layer of 24-karat gold leafing.

Cost and Time: It took 4 months to make this one throne and its total cost was around Rs 1 crore.

Ravana’s jewelery 13 looks, 130 jewels and 7 kg weight

Like the throne, Ravana’s jewelery was also worked with utmost care. Speaking to NDTV, Tarang Arora, creative head of ‘House of Amrapali’, said that since Lanka was considered the city of gold, it was very important to show that grandeur in the jewellery.

Most Difficult Chest Plate: Making Ravana’s chest armor was the most challenging task. The artisans carved it entirely with their own hands. Keeping in mind the comfort of the actor, a soft lining was provided under the chest plate so that he does not face any problem during the 6-hour shooting.

Devotion to Lord Shiva and snake motifs: To show Ravana as an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, snake designs were included in his jewellery.

Dark Colors and Metal Tones: Ravana’s brass and gold-plated jewelery used dark metallic shades with shades of blue, black and green.

Net Weight: ‘Tribe Amrapali’ created 13 different jewelery looks for Ravana. Each look included 8 to 10 pieces of jewellery, meaning a total of 104 to 130 pieces were made. The total weight of the jewelery of each look of Ravana was about 6 to 7 kg.
