Trichy: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Sastra University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to equip students with technology, Japanese language and business skills to prepare them for opportunities in Japan. A Centre of Excellence (CoE) was also launched on Sastra’s Thanjavur campus as part of the partnership.
K Krithivasan , CEO and managing director of TCS, and Dr S Vaidhyasubramaniam , vice-chancellor of Sastra, exchanged the MoU.
The CoE aims to build a sustained talent pipeline for technology roles in Japan by providing students with industry exposure, expert mentorship and opportunities to work on real-world projects.
The programme will focus on three areas: Japanese language and cultural proficiency, future-ready technology skills, and industry exposure and mentorship. Technology training will cover Java, Mainframe, .NET, Cloud, Google Cloud Platform, GenAI , Python, Playwright and Pega. Students will also receive mentoring from TCS subject matter experts, work on live projects and interact with TCS Japan Operations.
“Japan’s IT services market is growing steadily. Our partnership with Sastra in setting up this CoE is a step in this direction. We are confident that the CoE will help build a sustainable pipeline of professionals to cater to this important market,” said K Krithivasan.
Vaidhyasubramaniam said the Indo-Japan CoE aligned with the Indo-Japan diplomatic relationship, which will enter its 75th year in 2027.
