16 Jun 2026

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has added seasoned opener Soumya Sarkar to their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia.

The decision comes after skipper Litton Das suffered a muscle strain during the third ODI against Australia in Mirpur on June 14.

Despite no major concerns over the injury, Litton's availability for the series opener remains uncertain, as per Cricbuzz.

Sarkar's experience to bolster Bangladesh's batting lineup
Strategic move

Sarkar, who has played 87 T20Is and scored 1,462 runs for Bangladesh, was part of the ODI squad against Australia.

The BCB said in a statement that "The 33-year-old Soumya adds valuable experience to the squad."

His inclusion is seen as a strategic move by the team management to provide extra batting cover ahead of the series opener on June 17.

Fitness assessment

As the first match approaches, Bangladesh will closely monitor Litton's condition and make a final decision based on his fitness.

The team management is yet to decide on Litton's availability, but has taken precautionary measures by adding Sarkar to the squad.

This way, they can ensure that their batting lineup remains strong for the T20I series against Australia.

Notably, designated vice-captain Towhid Hridoy will lead the Tigers if Litton misses out.
